Missing the Sunshine and the Beaches...

I think I'm going through withdrawals.  Just a little bit.  Hawaii was so amazing, and I was so blessed to spend three weeks there!  But I love Alaska too.  Every day it hits me again--the awe-inspiring Matanuska glacier, the snowy-capped peaks of the Chugach and Talkeetna ranges, and the wildlife that I have become so accustomed to.

Other than enjoying the scenery, I've been doing a few little projects.  Mom, dad and I (with some help from my awesome cousin) scraped off the old border in my room, then my dad and I ripped (well, dad ripped) out the carpet and we tossed it out the window.  I took pictures of the process, but I'm kind of ashamed of how disgustingly dirty and dusty it was under that carpet, so I won't post any pictures.  All I'll say is that we used a shop vac instead of a regular vacuum to clean up after the carpet was ripped out.

Once we had the carpet out mom and I decided to sand down the wooden paneling and re-finish it.  It was worth the effort, and looks so much better!  We also painted--I found a lovely dark blue paint at Home Depot on the return cart, so instead of paying almost $30, we only spent $5 on a gallon of paint.  Dad spent a couple of days putting in a nice laminate flooring and installing a new door.
Before.  Old wallpaper from a time when I still liked horses.
Preparing to sand the wood.
Just about ready to move my things back in.

Now all I need is some new curtains, a throw rug, new mirror, and a painting or two to hang on the walls, because right now they are pretty bare.  I've been looking at some things online to get an idea of what I would like.
